Queer vampire film So Vam now streaming on Shudder
It’s been a few years since we’ve had an LGBTQ2+ vampire movie to sink our teeth into, and from the So Vam trailer, the wait has been worth it. A Salem Horror Festival fav, Shudder is now streaming the film exclusively (it dropped August 23, and reported by others to drop August 25)!
So Vam is an indie film from Australian by 17-year-old trans director Alice Maio Mackay. Our main character is teenager Kurt (Australian drag artist Xai), a small town queer boy with dreams of moving to the big city to become a drag artist. Kurt makes friends with a group of vampires, finding himself turned and empowered to take on his high school bullies and small town bigots. The trailer looks amazing, a blood filled coming-of-age story that hopefully has a good ending (eg, all the vampires surviving).
Mackay, who co-wrote So Vam with Benjamin Pahl Robinson, made sure to include authentic trans/queer/nonbinary characters played by trans and queer actors.
