Two new vampire movies for October 2021

With Halloween coming soon, the latest crop of vampire films is rising to finish off 2021. So far we’ve had Blood Red Sky and Jakob’s Wife, but October is giving us two films from the streamers.

Black as Night

Released at the beginning of October, this Blumhouse vampire film is exclusive to Amazon Prime Video. Set in New Orleans, Black as Night stars Asjha Cooper as Shawna, a teenage girl who discovers vampires are real, and it’s a problem. Her sidekick on this adventure is her gay best friend Pedro (Frabizio Guido), but soon the pair become a posse ready to take on the master vampire, and save New Orleans. But not everyone will be saved… in fact there’s plenty to look forward to if they make a sequel!

While not a ‘gay’ vampire film, this modern take on the vampire is female-led, inclusive and refreshing, but also addresses poverty and the other side of New Orleans. The gay character is briefly allowed to be himself, although it’s kept pretty PG.

Summary

“A teenage girl with self-esteem issues finds confidence in the most unlikely way, by spending her summer battling vampires that prey on New Orleans’ disenfranchised with the help of her best friend, the boy she’s always pined for, and a peculiar rich girl.”

Night Teeth

On October 20, Netflix is giving us another vampire film this year with the hotly anticipated Night Teeth movie. This one looks good. But so far we don’t know how much queer content to expect.

Starring Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Debby Ryan, Megan Fox, Sydney Sweeney, Lucy Fry, Alfie Allen and Alexander Ludwig, Night Teeth was filmed in New Orleans and L.A. The vampires are powerful, fanged and sexy. And the movie premise is quite fresh.

Summary

“A college student moonlighting as a chauffeur picks up two mysterious women for a night of party-hopping across LA. However, when he uncovers their bloodthirsty intentions and their dangerous, shadowy underworld, he must fight to stay alive.”
